Frequently Asked Questions
With winter coming how is alpaca wool different than Merino wool?
Although both are good quality wool, alpaca wool is hypoallergenic so it’s a good choice for people with sensitive skin. The fibers are smoother and stronger than sheep wool while at the same time being lighter and warmer. El Paso County is fortunate to have several alpaca farms and locations where you can purchase alpaca products. Alpaca clothing is excellent for fall layering or winter sports.
It is recommended to either hand wash alpaca products in cool water or dry clean them to prevent shrinkage or damage to the fiber.
Tips for Preparing Clothes for Dry Cleaning or Laundering?
Empty Your Pockets – It’s the number one tip that we’ve probably all forgotten some time. Empty your pockets and remove all items. It might save your clothing from additional staining or damage, and it helps protect our equipment.
Point Out Stains or Special Concerns – Our store managers are knowledgeable in identifying problem areas. If you don’t point it out, however, we might miss it. It’s also important if you know what the stain is that you let us know so it can be treated properly.
Unbutton Shirts and Unzip Zippers – Unbuttoning your shirts actually reduces the pulls and strains on the buttons preventing button loss. Let us know if you do have any missing buttons, as they can be repaired for a nominal cost. Zipping up clothing protects the teeth and prevents it from snagging other clothes.
How do we handle alterations throughout our nine locations?
We are happy to handle all types of alterations. Please bring them to your favorite location and let the store manager know what you need. Standard alterations include hemming, take-in/take-out clothing, adding patches or minor repairs and customized cuts for suits. We can also handle alterations for wedding and high-end dresses. Please remember that alterations are outside of our normal two-day turnaround, and we do not handle any leather repair.
How often should I clean my bed linens and comforters?
No matter what the season, we recommend washing bed linens biweekly to help remove skin cells, microorganisms, pet hair, stains and sweat. Comforters, blankets and quilts should be dry cleaned or laundered seasonally. Bed skirts should be cleaned twice a year. Super Quality Cleaners can handle all large household items for your fall cleaning. Look for our print and digital coupons for even more savings off our affordable pricing.
What is fleece and how should I care for it?
As the cooler nights set in, a lot of people turn to fleece for personal wear and bedding. Unlike it’s name, fleece has nothing to do with sheep. It is a synthetic insulating fabric generally made from polyester. It is lightweight, has anti-perspiration qualities and allows moisture to evaporate while blocking humidity from the outside.
Fleece should only be laundered by itself or with other fleece so the fibers don’t clump together. Fleece should be washed in cool or cold water with minimal detergent. Fleece should either be air-dried or tumble-dried on the lowest delicate setting.
Why is silk the most popular fabric for ties?
Silk has the ability to bounce back into shape after being tied and untied without showing creases. Silk ties should always be dry cleaned for best results. When removing your tie, never pull it at one end through the knot as it can cause the lining and stitching to buckle. Always carefully untie the knot. It is actually not advised to hang ties when storing them as it can result in creases. Roll the tie around your hand starting with the narrow end as it helps avoid wrinkling and store them in a container as loose rolls.
How do you handle shirts that say “Do Not Iron” if they have creases?
The technology for “no-iron” shirts has come a long way in the past 20 years. The material is generally 100%, 2-ply cotton so it now feels as comfortable as regular shirt fabric. No-iron shirts are treated with a resin that puts bonds in the material that doesn’t exist on natural cotton fiber. It makes the fabric harder to crease. No-iron shirts should never be dry cleaned due to the high temperatures. Super Quality Cleaners has the expertise to launder them at cold temperatures and provide any needed touch up for creases resulting in a professionally-cleaned look.

What fabrics must be dry cleaned, and what is the main advantage?
Unless the label indicates otherwise, the main fabrics that are recommended for “dry clean” only are: linen, rayon, silk, and wool. These fabrics may lose their shape, color, size or quality when washed in water. Dry cleaning uses a liquid solvent to clean while protecting the delicate structure of these items. If a tag on your favorite piece of clothing says “Dry Clean Only,” it’s best to leave it to the experts.
What’s the best way to “de lint” my clothes of pet hair to avoid the “de linting” charge?
We all love our “furry” pets. Excess fur especially when animals are shedding, can present a problem. Super Quality Cleaners carries a couple of specific de linting rollers and brushes for purchase at all nine locations. This helps keep down the cost of your dry-cleaning items and also keeps our equipment running at optimal performance.
What is the best way to clean and preserve wedding dresses?
The most popular months for weddings in Colorado are June - September. We have the expertise to professionally restore an heirloom dress or the most delicate or beaded wedding gown or evening wear. In addition, our separate “preservation services” package your gown in a premium quality, acid-free box that maintains color and prevents yellowing.
How do you handle cleaning high-end leather and suede?
Cleaning leather and suede requires a different cleaning technique than a fabric garment. Each piece is uniquely made and requires its own special solutions and processes depending on its construction, leather or suede type, finish and color. We use a professional grade solution that is carefully applied to clean your garments, enhance appearance, and preserve color and texture. We can also hand-clean leather handbags as well.
With summer camping just around the corner, can you clean sleeping bags and hiking equipment such as backpacks?
Our industrial machines can handle all weights of sleeping bags. We suggest getting them professionally cleaned at the start and end of the season. Backpacks can be hand cleaned as well.
We’ve even been asked about tent repair for seams that might need sewing. We have industrial sewing machines as well. Bring in your item(s), and we’ll take a look. Do you have a question that you’d like us to address? Send it to info@sqcleaners.com, and we’ll either address it online the next time we update this page or via email.
Why causes static cling in clothes and how does Super Quality Cleaners help to reduce it in your clothes?
Static cling typically forms in your dryer during the final minutes of the drying cycle, when friction between dry fabrics produces an electrostatic charge. Static electricity forms easily in dry air, which is why static cling tends to be more of an issue during the winter when cold temperatures mean low humidity, or you have a dry climate like Colorado Springs.
At Super Quality Cleaners, we incorporate some of the best practices to reduce static cling such as finishing the drying of large items, like comforters, outside on nice days. As an added bonus, you’ll get that fresh-air scent to permeate your clothes. We also carefully separate clothes, such as polyester and nylon, that are more prone to static cling buildup and use dryer balls that help reduce static cling.

How do You Prepare Ski Clothing to be Professionally Cleaned?
The Colorado ski season is now in full swing, and all our winter enthusiasts are happy that the snowstorms are starting to make winter activities much more enjoyable.
Before you bring your ski outerwear to us, below are a few tips to ensure that you get the best professional clean possible:
1. Check the label for any special cleaning instructions.
2. Remove everything from pockets (don’t forget your ski pass), close the zippers, leg/arm vents, pocket flaps and Velcro straps.
3. Stained Clothing? – Note the stain. It’s important to bring in stained clothes ASAP to be treated. We don’t recommend using store-bought stain removers as they can strip water-repellent and waterproofing treatments on clothes.
Have fun this winter wherever your adventures take you and check out our coupon page for winter ski clothing savings!
